Our Story
A Home Founded on Respect for Later Life
Tin Lok was established to give older adults in Hong Kong a place where the daily rhythms of Cantonese life — good food, garden air, unhurried company — remain central, not peripheral.

The Story Behind Tin Lok
The name Tin Lok — 天樂, meaning heavenly contentment — reflects the aspiration that guided this residence from its earliest days. Tin Lok was founded by a small group of Hong Kong families who felt, from personal experience, that the city lacked a senior living option that genuinely honoured the texture of Cantonese daily life. The dining, the pace, the social fabric, the sense of being among neighbours who share the same cultural memory — these things matter deeply, and they are not easy to replicate.
Situated at 9 Severn Road on The Peak, Tin Lok occupies a setting with long views and clean air — a physical environment that has always been associated in Hong Kong with a certain quality of life. The buildings have been adapted rather than rebuilt, preserving proportions and rooms that feel domestic in scale, not institutional.
From the beginning, the approach here has been to keep things simple and human. Three meals a day prepared with care. Gardens maintained for walking and sitting. Staff recruited not only for competence but for temperament — people who are calm, attentive and genuinely pleased to be of help. Monthly arrangements that are transparent in what they cover, so families are never uncertain about what to expect.
Tin Lok is not a medical facility. We do not provide clinical care. What we offer is a settled, thoughtfully run home for older adults who are well enough to enjoy independent daily life but who welcome the ease of having meals, housekeeping and community arranged around them.

Our Mission
What We Stand For
Dignity as the Starting Point
Every decision at Tin Lok — from how meals are served to how staff address residents — begins with the question of whether it preserves dignity. This is not a phrase on a wall; it shapes daily practice.
Cantonese Rhythms at the Centre
Food, language, festivals and social customs follow the Hong Kong Cantonese tradition. Residents do not need to adapt to an unfamiliar culture — the culture here is theirs.
Honesty with Families
We are transparent about what Tin Lok provides and what it does not. We write down everything we agree, we answer questions fully, and we do not make representations we cannot keep.
No Unnecessary Rush
Older adults deserve a home where the pace of each day is chosen by the resident, not imposed by a schedule. Tin Lok is organised around leisure and quiet sociability, not activity targets.
The People Here
Our Leadership Team
The people who lead Tin Lok are chosen for patience, warmth and a genuine regard for older adults — not only for professional credentials.
Mrs. Wong Mei-Chu
Residence Director
Mei-Chu has spent over two decades working with older adults in Hong Kong. She oversees the daily life of the residence with a hands-on presence and a calm, steady manner that residents and families value deeply.
Mr. Lau Chi-Fai
Head of Dining
Chi-Fai trained in Cantonese home cooking and has been responsible for Tin Lok's kitchen for eleven years. He takes particular care with seasonal menus and is proud that many residents name the afternoon tea as the highlight of their day.
Ms. Tang Yuk-Lin
Resident Liaison & Gardens
Yuk-Lin is the person residents are most likely to see each morning in the garden. She coordinates resident activities, manages family communications and tends the courtyard plantings — with evident enjoyment of each part.
Our Standards
How We Maintain Quality Day to Day
Consistent quality at Tin Lok comes from clear standards, attentive staff and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing of each resident.
Residential Care Standards
Tin Lok operates in accordance with Hong Kong residential care guidelines, with regular internal reviews to ensure the standard of rooms, dining and communal spaces meets or exceeds expectations.
Food Safety & Kitchen Hygiene
The kitchen follows documented food safety procedures, with staff trained in handling, storage and preparation. Menus are reviewed seasonally and dietary information for each resident is kept on record.
Resident Privacy
Personal information and circumstances are held confidentially. Staff are trained on privacy obligations and access to resident records is strictly limited to those with a need to know.
Safeguarding Policy
All staff hold up-to-date background clearances and receive induction training in adult safeguarding. There is a named safeguarding lead and a clear process for raising and handling concerns.
Garden and Environment
The gardens are professionally maintained with attention to safety for older adults — even surfaces, good lighting and shaded rest areas. Seasonal planting is done with care for colour and fragrance through the year.
Feedback and Improvement
Residents and families are encouraged to share their views at any time. The residence director meets with families regularly, and suggestions are taken seriously and followed up in writing.
Our Expertise
Senior Living in Hong Kong — A Considered Approach
Choosing a senior residence in Hong Kong is a significant decision for any family. The range of options can be wide and the differences between them are not always apparent from a brochure. Tin Lok was founded specifically to address a gap that many Hong Kong families identify: the absence of a non-medical residence that centres Cantonese culture, values privacy and runs at a pace suited to older adults.
Senior living in Hong Kong has historically been weighted toward clinical models, where the emphasis is on supervision and medical oversight. Tin Lok takes a different view. Many older adults in Hong Kong are in good health and simply wish to live somewhere calm, well-kept and sociable — without the burden of managing their own housekeeping, cooking and daily logistics. That is what Tin Lok offers.
The residence at The Peak provides an environment shaped by fifteen years of listening to residents and their families. The menus are Cantonese. The staff speak Cantonese. The garden follows the seasons of the Hong Kong year. The afternoon tea sitting has been part of the daily life here since the beginning, and remains, by most accounts, the moment of the day that residents most look forward to.
Families considering Tin Lok are always welcome to visit without an appointment, to ask questions and to take whatever time they need. We do not press for decisions and we do not sell. We simply try to give a clear and honest picture of what life here involves, and to help families work out whether it is the right fit.
